On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Ready Are You to Travel?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how ready are you to travel?

I mean, I know you’re READY, but are you ready to actually book that fall 2021 trip?

Maybe you’re at zero, and you aren’t even considering travel until you and a majority of the popular are vaccinated and infection rates are close to zero. Or maybe you’re a 10, and you’re ready to book and fly tomorrow.

Or maybe you’re like me and have two numbers. I want to travel and my heart is at a 10 on this scale — get me the heck out of this condo and into a strange, new city. But my brain is at a 4 — I understand that infections and deaths are soaring, and I’m willing to wait for my vaccination to travel.

As you consider your number, check out this list of how I view the mindset that each number represents:

10 - The pandemic never slowed me down.

9 - If there are no travel restrictions, traveling there is fair game.

8 - If my destination has low infection rates, I’ll travel.

7 - As long as I social distance, wear masks, and get tested before and after a trip, I’m fine.

6 - I’ll road trip somewhere domestically.

5 - I’ll travel a short distance by car and take every precaution.

4 - I’ll travel once travel restrictions are lifted or relaxed.

3 - I’ll travel once I’m vaccinated.

2 - I’ll travel once a majority of people in my country are vaccinated.

1 - I’ll travel once infection rates are close to zero.

0 - I won’t travel until it is scientifically proven that we have globally reached herd immunity through vaccinations.

So, back to you — On a scale of 1 to 10, how ready are you to travel?

Why didn’t you pick a lower number?

Which number did you pick and why? But I’m especially curious to learn why didn’t you pick a lower number? While you’re thinking about that, let me tell you why I picked 4 and not 3 or 2 or 1.

Yes, I CANNOT WAIT to start traveling again, but I also understand that I won’t enjoy my next vacation if I’m putting myself and others in harm’s way. I didn’t choose 3 or lower because I think under the right circumstances I’d consider traveling. But these circumstances are rare right now, so rather than considering traveling now, let’s look into the future.

Maybe you’re like me and you’re a 4 right now. But think about six months from now — what number would you pick for July 2021? And what about November 2021?

If you went from a 4 to a 6 to a 10 you aren’t nuts! A lot of travel and health experts believe that safe travel will be possible this fall.

So, what needs to happen between now and September to get you to scratch your travel itch?

What can I do to get you to 10?

Some factors standing in the way of safe travel we have control over — getting vaccinated, buying travel insurance — other factors we need to wait for higher-ups to handle. Which factors are causing you anxiety?

What needs to happen globally

For a lot of people, travel won’t feel safe and advisable until our countries achieve the following:

  1. Widespread vaccinations

  2. Infection rates close to or at zero

  3. Keep precautions (masking, social distancing) in place until health goals are met

What you — the traveler — need to do

For the individual traveler, there are only two things on your to-do list in order to prep yourself for travel:

  1. Get vaccinated

Short and sweet list, but this task will be varying levels of difficulty depending on your circumstances and residency.

What I can do for you!

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an increase in anxiety and depression, so it’s understandable if your excitement about traveling is overshadowed by your anxiety. Sometimes our anxieties are best treated by a mental health professional, but I am able to help you with a travel mindset adjustment. We’ll talk to through the process and focus on the pain points that cause you the most stress.

I can help you identify which countries you’re allowed to visit, but also determine where it’s safe to travel

The rules of travel are different across the globe. I can help you understand and meet testing and quarantine requirements. For example, did you know Americans will need a negative Covid-19 test to the US after an international trip? I can navigate these travel restrictions for you.

Once we’ve booked your trip, I can find you the best travel insurance policy to protect your adventure. And together we’ll prepare you for safe travel in-destination.

Eventually — once testing is more widespread — I’ll help you establish your vaccine passport!

Last year was hard, and this year has started off rough. And it’s okay if you feel that deeply. If you want to chat about the emotional aspect of travel OR if you’re ready to start planning for travel in 2021, I’m here and happy to talk! Take a look at my calendar and schedule a call
